CLUB SOCIAL: Austin Stacks GAA club celebrated in style last Saturday night (Feb 12th) as nearly 300 Rockies gathered in Ballygarry House Hotel for their Victory Celebration.

The focus of the night was of course the celebration of the club’s recent Co. Championship & Club Championship successes but due to covid the wins from 2020 of both Senior Club Championship & Town Championship were also celebrated.  Our B team were celebrating too, as newly crowned champions of Div 5 and Junior Town League winners.

MC for the evening was Radio Kerry’s Tim Moynihan who did a superb job and certainly got the scoop of the night with Kieran Donaghy announcing that he has no club retirement plans at the moment much to the delight of the attendees.

Other speakers on the night included Club Chairman, Shane Lynch, Co. Board Chairman Pat O’Sullivan, Senior Manager, Wayne Quillinan, B Manager, Paddy Barry and Mikey Collins who spoke on behalf of the Ladies Club and encouraged members to all sign up for the Lidl Promotion and win a jersey set for Austin Stacks LGFA.

Senior Player of the Year went to Colin Griffin, B Player of the Year went to Conor Myers, the Supporter of the Year went to ‘The 16th Man’, a general award to our wonderful supporters who brought colour and excitement to the terraces throughout the season.

Elma Nix also received a presentation for her outstanding service as secretary of the club over the past 8 years. Meanwhile, Best Dressed Lady on the night went to Noelle Cregan and Best Dressed Man was Conor Donaghy.

The night began with a champagne reception at 6.30pm, followed by a delicious meal. After the medal presentation, ‘Heart & Soul’ provided the entertainment followed by DJ Francie Breen.

Yes, indeed it was a night to savour! It’s fair to say the Rockies enjoyed themselves and the party last well into the wee hours.

The club offers its sincere thanks to Event organisers Siobhan Power, Mary Mc Quinn, and Lorraine Scanlon who left no stone unturned to ensure everyone had a fantastic night.  Thanks to wonderful hosts Ballygarry House Hotel. To MC extraordinaire Tim Moynihan.

The organising committee would also like to thank Elma Nix, Jimmy Browne, Nial Shanahan, Deirdre Power, Francie Breen, Adrienne McLoughlin Wayne Quillinan and Paddy Barry for their help also.  For photos from the night, click here

GOLF CLASSIC: Rockie golfers and supporters gathered in The Brogue Inn on Sunday evening for the launch of the 2022 Austin Stacks Golf Classic which takes place on Friday 25 th March in Tralee Golf

Club. Speaking at the launch, Austin Stacks Chairman Shane Lynch said that “The Rock has a long and storied history of golf fundraising events and this year’s edition promises to be our biggest yet.

As we emerge from Covid restrictions, the Golf Classic provides our fabulous supporters with a fantastic day out at the magnificent Barrow links course and an opportunity to celebrate our Senior Team’s hugely successful 2021 campaign which culminated in our 13th County Championship title and the return of the Bishop Moynihan Cup to the Rock”.

Shane remarked that this year’s Golf Classic is a hugely important part of Austin Stacks’ fundraising campaign to generate much-needed finances required for the club’s pitch upgrade programme and to alleviate the costs of the Senior Team’s County and Munster. Championship campaigns.

He added: “like all GAA clubs, our fundraising capability was adversely impacted by the Pandemic and we now call on all our supporters and on keen golfers in the Kingdom and beyond to get behind this fabulous event and help Austin Stacks finance the next wave of development in the club”. At the launch, which was attended by several of the County Championship winning team, Shane thanked the club’s Golf Classic committee who have worked tirelessly over the past number of months to make the event a reality, and also to Tralee Golf Club for hosting the event.

In addition to playing one of the best links courses in the world, teams of four will play for some fantastic prizes including a draw on the day for four All Ireland Football Final tickets.
