SENIOR FOOTBALL: The Co. Club Championship gets underway this week-end with two Groups of 4 in the Senior competition. The two games in Group 1 go ahead on Saturday evening at 7pm with Na Gaeil playing Kenmare Shamrocks in Lewis Road and Spa versus Dingle in Strand Road.

The Group 2 games go ahead on Sunday (7th Aug) at 1pm. We travel to the Legion pitch at Derreen where we play Templenoe and Dr. Crokes and Kerins O’Rahillys meet up in Castleisland.

In round 2 we have a home game against Kerins O’Rahillys and in the third and final round we are away to Dr. Crokes. The top two teams in each Group will go through to the semi finals.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 3-11; St. Kierans 1-6.

After going down by the narrowest of margins to Kenmare (0-13 to 0-12) in the opening round of the Co. Championship last week our boys put up a brilliant performance in the second round in Connolly Park on last Wednesday evening (27th July). We went into an early lead with Paddy Lane opening the scoring with a point from play after 40 seconds and adding two more from frees inside the fifth minute. Kierans got off the mark a minute later with a pointed free but Paddy added two more by the 11thminute. Kierans then got their first from play in the 15th minute followed by a super effort from Daniel Kirby a minute later. Then in the 20th minute Kierans got their 3rd point of the game and four minutes later Ronan Carroll pointed for us. Ronan was also involved in the next score in the 28th minute. Ben Murphy fielded superbly and found Ronan on the attack for the first goal of the game. Kierans added two more points to one for us by Ryan O’Driscoll to leave us ahead at the break by 1-8 to 0-5.

We outscored the opposition again during the second half by 2-3 to 1-1. And again it was Paddy Lane and Ronan Carroll  who were the scorers – Paddy with a goal and two points and Ronan with a goal and a point. But all 20 players who lined out played superbly with Michael Tansley making a super save in the 25th minute of the first half.

Team: Michael Tansley, Donnacha Horgan, Ben Murphy, James Fisher, Seán Heaslip, Luke Casey (Capt), David Lucid, Daniel Kirby (0-1), Colm Browne, Thomas Deregee, Ronan Carroll (2-2), Noah Townsend, Paddy Lane (1-7 – five frees), Ryan O’Driscoll (0-1), Ronan Mulrooney.

Subs used: Seán Moynihan (20m), Aaron Nolan (52m), Mark Lynch (56m), Gavin Casey (58m), Ciarán Kavanagh (59m).

Kenmare now top the Group on 4 pts; with ourselves and St.Kierans on 2 pts each with Crokes having no points. So it’s still all to play for in the third and final round on this Monday evening (1st August) where we were away to Dr. Crokes. Check Club Website.
