Senior Football: Intermediate Club Championship QF:  FT Austin Stacks 1-18 Glenflesk 0-12.  Austin Stacks travelled to Glenflesk on Saturday afternoon (Sept 2nd) very much the underdogs following their disappointing defeat to Castleisland in Round 3 just six days earlier.

The home side carrying the favourites tag following their victory over Fossa at the same competition stage.  Austin Stacks management rang the changes and were able to welcome back from injury and include on this week’s starting line-up Michael O’Donnell, Michael O’Gara, Joey Nagle and Jack Morgan.

Stacks got off to a great start with Sean Quilter shooting two beautiful points from distance within the opening three minutes.

Glenflesk and East Kerry’s Darragh Roche, pointed from play before Michael O’Donnell struck for his first of the day from play.  The sides exchanged points ours a free by Michael O’Donnell to leave the score after ten minutes of fast flowing football Glenflesk 0-2 Austin Stacks 0-4.

The sides exchanged scores three times in the next 20 minutes our scorers, Michael O’Donnell, Shane O’Callaghan & Michael O’Gara all from play, before Sean Quilter pointed a free in injury time to leave the Half Time Score Austin Stacks 0-8 Glenflesk 0-5.

Glenflesk came out all guns blazing after half time and had reduced the Stacks lead to the minimum with two excellent points from play by Tommy Bowler and Killian O’Sullivan.

Shane O’Callaghan steadied the ship with our first point of the second half after two minutes.  The sides exchanged points once more, ours from the boot of Cillian Litchfield.

Then the turning point of the game came when team Captain, Shane O’Callaghan, who had given his marker a tumultuous day throughout, in typical ‘Calla’ style rounded the keeper and his low shot found the back of the net.  Austin Stacks 1-10 Glenflesk 0-9.

Glenflesk responded immediately with a point from play but his was quickly cancelled out by a point from play by the hardworking Sean Quilter.  Donagh Mc Kivergan, added his name to the point scorers in the 39th minute just before that same man again, Shane O’Callaghan, chipped in with another from play in the 44th minute.

The home side hit Stacks for three points in a row in the next six minutes, 2 converted frees by Darragh Roche and one from play from Ian Roche to leave the scoreboard Glenflesk 0-12 Austin Stacks 1-13 with ten minutes remaining.

Then came another twist in the tale as Glenflesk were reduced to fourteen men following a second yellow card for Darragh Roche.

Austin Stacks controlled the game expertly in the remaining ten minutes, managing to hold Glenflesk scoreless while adding five more points to their total tally, Micheal O’Donnell 0-3 (2 frees) and 2 excellent points from play by substitute David Mannix.  FT Austin Stacks 1-18 Glenflesk 0-12.

Well done to Austin Stacks Players and Management on reaching the Semi Final stages of this year’s Intermediate Club Championship and thanks to everyone who made the journey to Glenflesk to support the team.

Shane O’Callaghan was the Celsius Man of the Match.

We play Fossa in the semi-final on Sunday 10th September at 4 pm in Fitzgerald Stadium.

A word of thanks also to Austin Stacks LGFA U10 girls who participated in the mini games V Glenflesk U10s at the half time interval. It is was a great opportunity for the girls to showcase their football talent and they didn’t disappoint.  Well done girls.

Minor Football: The Minor Team start their campaign to retain the  Club Championship Trophy when they take on Listowel Emmets in the Quarter Final on Saturday 9th September at 4 pm in Listowel.

Book Launch: A new book by our former Chairperson Billy Ryle will be launched at Tralee Library at 7 pm on Thursday 7th September, by Senator Martin Conway, the first visually impaired person to be elected to the Oireachtas.Net profits in 2023 from the book entitled “Donar Organ Transplants or Blind for the Football” will be donated to the National Council for the Blind, for it’s great work for the visually impaired.

Club Cards: Our card sessions continue in the Clubhouse on Mondays and Thursdays with the starting time of 9 pm sharp.

CLUB LOTTO: This week’s (4th September) Jackpot worth €4,700 was not won. The numbers drawn were 1, 23, 27, 30. The €20 winners were Stephen Palfrey c/o The Club, Paul O’Sullivan c/o The Club, Dell White c/o The Club, Martin Collins c/o The Club, Eleanor Fitzgerald c/o The Club
