Austin Stacks

STEWARDS: The re-opening of Austin Stack Park sees the return of major Club and Inter-County games to Tralee.  Kerry GAA is asking Clubs to help them recruit extra stewards (male & female).

Full training on duties will be provided and it should be clearly emphasized that these volunteers will not be needed for all games. If you are interested please contact Club Secretary, Elma Nix on 086 1053300.

ROCK POST OFFICE: have set the Tralee GAA Club’s a task.  The Club whose supporters make the most transactions in the Rock PO from now until December will win the lucrative right to exclusively sell their Club Lotto Tickets in the Rock PO.

So with each personal or work place/business transaction (collection of any payments, buying your TV or Dog licence, registering a letter, cash withdrawals ,investments, savings or simply purchasing your Christmas stamps ) we are asking you to say “I’M A ROCKIE” –  this is key to our success in securing the franchise.   Benefits the Post Office.  Benefits the Club.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: It’s now just over a week away to the Co. Championship quarter finals (that’s assuming that Saturday week’s All Ireland Final replay won’t jeopardize the fixtures schedule). First up on Saturday week(1st Oct), in Austin Stack Park, is the Kerins O’Rahillys .v. Dr. Crokes game at 3pm, to be followed at 4.45 by the South Kerry .v. Dingle game.

Then on the Sunday (2nd Oct) in Fitzgerald at 2pm it’s the Mid Kerry .v. Rathmore game to be followed by our game against Kenmare District at 3.30pm. The semi finals are fixed for the following weekend with the final on Sunday, 23rd October (semi final and final dates could be altered if any of the aforementioned games resulted in replays).

WELL DONE: to the Kerry Minors, including our own Ferdia O’Brien, on that brilliant win over Galway (3-7 to 0-9) in last Sunday’s All Ireland MF Final in Croke Park – their third title in a row – making Kerry now the only County to have achieved two separate ‘three-in-a-row’ titles, to add to their first in 1931-32-33.. It was Kerry’s 14th title in total since that first victory in 1931, which now puts a little more daylight between themselves and Dublin (11 titles) and Cork (10 titles) on top of the MF Roll of Honours.

Ferdia becomes the 22nd Rock Minor to bring a Minor medal to the Club, bringing our Minor medals total to 27.

When Kerry achieved that last three-in-a-row (8th Oct 1933) there was also a Rock man on the team  – goalkeeper, Brendan Reidy, who was winning his 3rd MF medal that day after winning also in 1931 and 1932.  He is the only Rock player ever to have achieved that but three others have won two medals – Frank O’Neill (1931/32), Henry McKinney (1962/63) and Jack Morgan (2014/15).

HURLING: With two titles now already captured (the South Kerry SH League and the South Kerry JH Championship) our Hurlers are now in the finals of the three remaining competitions – the South Kerry SH Championship (against Kilgarvan), the Co. League Final (against Duagh) and the County JH Championship Final (also against Duagh, after their semi final victory last week-end).

Tentative dates have been fixed for these three games – week-end of 24th Sept, 1st Oct and 9th Oct. As we write the Co. JH Championship Final, between ourselves and Duagh has been fixed for this Saturday (24th Sept) with the venue and starting time still to be confirmed. Check Website for details.

B FOOTBALL: The Town League Final, between ourselves and John Mitchels, has now been refixed for this Saturday (24th Sept) at 3pm in Caherslee..

MINOR FOOTBALL: Our Minors have qualified for the Central League Final where they will play Dingle who came through from the other Group. We await a date for this game.

CONGRATULATIONS: to former Club Footballer, Billy Sheehan and his wife Marie Crowe (UTV Sport) on the recent birth of another baby boy, named Davie, a 3rd grandson for Club Members, Anne and Timmy Sheehan.
