THE worst fears were confirmed for Kerry U21 and Austin Stacks player Greg Horan when a scan on Wednesday uncovered an ACL tear in his right knee.

The average recovery time for a torn ACL is anywhere between six and nine months but it can often take a bit longer that, so that rules the 21 year old out for the Austin Stacks county championship campaign.

Horan picked up the injury during The Rock’s club championship semi-final victory against Dingle in Annascaul at the weekend.

The incident occurred only minutes into the match, when the player seemed to stumble into a tackle. When he hit the ground Horan appeared to be in agony.

He later returned to the bench during the second half on crutches and his right knee heavily bandaged.

Horan is a former Kerry minor and is seen as one of Kerry’s top young prospects coming through around the middle third. He was an important part of the Austin Stacks team that won Kerry and Munster titles in 2014.

The injury is a major setback for a player who would have been looking at trying to make an impression on the Kerry senior panel over the next year.

We at Traleetoday.ie wish Greg all the best in his recovery.
