WHEN comedian Brendan Grace arrived by horse and trap to unveil a plaque dedicated to the memory of Tralee character, Nedeen Kelliher, it was a fitting tribute for a much loved town figure of the past.
Nedeen Kelliher, ‘Tralee’s last jarvey’ was a great friend of Brendan Grace and was wonderful fodder for the funnyman’s standup routines. Particularly stories that involved Kerry people and their peculiarities.
A crowd of over 100, including Mayor of Tralee Terry O’Brien, braved some squally conditions and welcomed Grace as he made his way over Blennerville Bridge.
Meeting family and descendants of Nedeen Kelliher, who passed away in 1989, the comedian delighted his welcoming party with story about his fond friend.
The plaque is located by the side of the craft shops in the Blennerville Windmill visitor centre.
Nedeen Kelliher from Annagh was a figure known to many and left a huge impression on tourists and many stars who came to visit Tralee.
Operating from in front of the Brandon Hotel, he showed tourists around Tralee in his jarvey cart and entertained them with his wit and mannerisms. Scroll down for photos…
