Breda And Daithí Help Launch The Rose Of Tralee 10k

THE Rose of Tralee 10km was launched on Saturday by Rose of Tralee Host Daithi O’Se and last year’s Kerry Rose, Breda O’Mahony on Saturday last at the Ballyroe Heights Hotel in Tralee.

Also in attendance were Oliver Hurley, Festival of Kerry, Una O’Mahoney Radar Retail and Martin Fitzgerald Chair of Tralee Harriers and Paul Griffin the clubs PRO, along with athlete Rachel O’Mahoney.

The Rose of Tralee 10km, which takes place on Sunday, August 19, starts at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre and follows the River Lee Walkway, the Tralee Canal, and back into town following Strand Rd, Rock St, Maine Street, Ashe St. and finishing in Denny St. to arousing support of the family members and locals with live entertainment, and a party atmosphere.

Daithi said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to launch this race. It makes great sense to support an event which helps raise funds for an athletic club that has become a great success story for the town of Tralee”

Breda O’Mahoney said; “The Rose of Tralee 10km is one of the highlights of the festival. So many people come out to run around their town and support a local club. I urge as many as possible to come out and join in this fun event.”

Martin Fitzgerald presented both Daithi and Breda a Tralee Harriers AC Hoodie and Half Zip and confirmed honorary membership upon them

Tralee Harriers Chair Martin Fitzgerald said; “this is one of the biggest fundraisers that the club has and it continues to be a very popular race bringing in runners from all over, especially those connected with the festival”.

Martin thanked the sponsors and the festival for their continued support of the club, “we are in continuing development phases and the changes to the training grounds will provide a popular facility for all runners to be able to use, with track lanes for running and walking. Our race series is our way of raising the much needed funds.”

The Rose of Tralee’s Operations Manager, Oliver Hurley, said: “As the organisers of the Festival, we believe it is important to promote the rise in interest in health and well-being. Therefore, we are delighted that the Rose of Tralee International 10K has continued to flourish. We are proud to be associated with such a popular event and we wish Tralee Harriers every success in their efforts to attract entries from near and far. The 10K race was first introduced to the Festival programme of entertainment in 2013 and since then hundreds of Roses and Rose Escorts have made it the highlight of their week.”

The prize have been extended this year, with the usual top three Male and Female finishers, there will be the over age categories, and are also introducing First Past Televised Rose, First Past Escort, and First Family member of 2018 Rose contestant.

There will be several other prizes on the day. Each runner that registers will receive a T-shirt and medal.

Paul Griffin Tralee Harriers PRO, said: “It is great event for the town and for runners. The race regularly attracts up to 700 competitors, so we are really looking forward to August and hope that everyone will once again enjoy taking part. We are already making plans to enhance the race, and will let everyone know about these in due course, we are getting great feedback from locals and there is a huge buzz about this year’s race, with several past roses and escorts, and a few well known national and local celebrities taking part”.

The Tralee Harriers Rose of Tralee 10km is sponsored by The Festival of Kerry, The Kerry’s Eye, Byrne’s Spar & Radar Retail and will once again be organised by Tralee Harriers Athletic Club.
