Boy racers are becoming a problem in and around Tralee of late according to gardaí. File photo of marks left on the Tralee-Killarney road last year.

GARDAÍ are looking for the public’s help after the problem of boy racers reared its ugly head over past few weeks.

The motorists are leaving their mark on roads in many parts of the county by doing ‘donuts’ in the early hours as well as keeping people awake with their anti-social behaviour.

The Bracker O’Regan Road and Clash Industrial Estate are popular spots for these drivers to congregate and according to gardaí they are not easily caught, as they have lookouts to warn them of approaching gardaí, so by the time the patrol car gets the location, they’re gone from the scene.

Another popular spot where the boy racers congregate of late is from the Ballycarthy roundabout to the old Killarney road, coming onto the new road.

Gardaí are asking the public that if they see this erratic driving behaviour to take note of the registration and their evidence will be enough to bring the matter to the courts and the gardaí will be able to prosecute the person involved.

With the upcoming Killarney Rally of the Lakes, gardaí are taking a very strong approach to the minority of motorists who engage in type of dangerous driving behaviour with numerous checkpoints and are appealing to the public to report any anti-social behaviour.
