Pa Laide, CEO, Cara Credit Union said; “we would support these community groups throughout the year, but our priority back in March when the lockdown was announced that the most vulnerable in our society would be looked after during the pandemic.

“We contacted Meals on Wheels Tralee just before St Patricks Day  who were busy at the time putting necessary measures in place, sourcing chefs, supplies etc. In the four months they have gone from serving 70 meals over a weekend to delivering  1,450 meals a week.

“Additionally, we contacted Meals on Wheels in Castleisland, Killorglin, Knocknagoshel and Killorglin Family Resource Centre and Tralee Soup Kitchen and have continued to work with them by way of donations over the past four months since the lockdown.

“It was also great to see all the community and voluntary groups in Kerry along with many volunteers including those from the hospitability industry come together to form the Covid 19 Community Response whose work has been phenomenal.

“They have linked into the meals and wheels initiative in our local areas to ensure that everyone in our community has access to services so we were delighted to assist in whatever way we could and are delighted to continue to do so,” said Pa Laide.
