Tralee Students Excel At BT Young Scientist And Technology Exhibition

Ciara and Saoirse Murphy with Minister for Education Norma Foley after the Presentation student were named Overall Group Runners Up in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition on Friday evening.

STUDENTS from Tralee schools acquitted themselves admirably in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in the RDS on Friday with.

Sisters Ciara and Saoirse Murphy from Presentation Secondary School Tralee Group were Overall Group Runners Up in the competition for their project ‘ACT {Aid, Care, Treat} – an immediate, accessible, technological aid to assist in emergencies, supported by a comprehensive repository of medical information’.

The girls also won a Display Award in the Health & Wellbeing category for their project.

Torran Millar, Feidhlim Kevin Ginty, Conan Seino from Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School came 2nd Junior Group in the Chemical, Physical & Mathematical Sciences category for their project ‘How can the mechanics in origami be applied to modern engineering’.

Ethan Ward and Donncha Enright from CBS The Green came 3rd in the Technology category for their project ‘Designing and creating an AI platform which can aid in differentiating learning in mixed ability classrooms in a constructive learning setting’.

There were a number of other prize winners from around the county.

Sarah Abbott from Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare won an Educator of Excellence Award; Jim Culhane and Paula-Eve Culhane from Tarbert Comprehensive School came 2nd Senior Group in the Technology category; Siena Ryan, Una O’Shea and Emma O’Sullivan from Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare came 3rd Junior Group in the Biological & Ecological category; Kate O’Connor and Sophie Ryan from Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare came 2nd Intermediate Group in the Health & Wellbeing category; David O’Brien, Oisín Hanley, Jamie Crowley Wharton from Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine won a Display Award in the Biological & Ecological category.
