A TRALEE school is celebrating after benefitting from the latest ‘Sports Capital Programme’ grants allocation.

The Clash-based Coláiste Gleann Lí post-primary school received €90,000  and means that it is the only school-based application in the entire country to receive a grant.

This new influx of money will now be used by the school to help build a new changing room and other facilities at the onsite astro turf pitch.

The staff and management at the school were understandably delighted at the news which they felt complimented the image of the school as one that was ‘on the rise’ in the town.

“This fantastic news is timely as it will compliment our extension which is through the planning process and moving to the building phase shortly; with estimated completion date for next September. This new extension will include additional classrooms, a new engineering facility and a creative arts, media and library space in order to cater for the recent surge in enrolments,” said Principal Richard Lawlor.

“This welcome announcement will ensure that our fabulous on-site astro turf facility is fully maximised by the school and our community partners,” he continued.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone that played a part in making this happen; in particular our community partners and the Management and staff of Kerry Education and Training Board,” he finished.

The Assistant Principal, Maryanne Slattery expressed her delight as well at the money received.

“We will be delighted to show our sports capital and extension plans along with our state-of-the-art astro turf facility to members of the public, at our Open Day next Saturday, October 17th, from 10am to 1pm,” she said.
