A CURRAHEEN woman has been nominated for a very prestigious award in recognition of her efforts in helping to raise money for  a Cork based hospital.

Brenda Doody is currently in training for the Dublin City Marathon, the final marathon of the dozen that she planned on running this year, all of which have been aimed at raising funds for the Mercy Hospital in Cork as thanks for the treatment her husband received there (see previous story here).

Her efforts for the hospital have not gone unnoticed by the staff however after she was nominated for the ‘Mercy Hospital Hero of the Year 2015 Award’, with the winner of the awards set to be announced at a gala celebration on the night of Friday, October 2.

The Mercy Stars is an event designed to recognise the individuals, teams, and fundraising volunteers who go the extra mile for patients and colleagues at The Mercy University Hospital.

Brenda has so far managed to raise €19,300 for the hospital with all of this money set to go towards funding research programmes in oesphageal cancer and expanding the minimally invasive cancer programme in the Mercy University Hospital.

You can donate to Brenda’s fundraising efforts HERE or follow her personal thoughts as she approaches the end of her marathon campaign on her blog page HERE.
