FOR the second week in a row a footballer from Kerry has won the GAA.ie Football Player Of The Week…but it was close!

Darran O’Sullivan looked back to his best on Sunday in the Allianz Football League semi-final over Roscommon in Croke Park. He was up against other nominees Patrick McBrearty of Donegal and Dublin’s Ciaran Kilkenny.

The Glenbeigh/Glencar clubman earned 2,256 votes (37.5 per cent) of the public vote, just ahead of McBrearty on 2,187 votes (36.2 per cent), while Kilkenny got 1,598 votes (26.5 per cent).

He had a superb game on Sunday, scoring 1-4 and tormenting the Connaught side’s defence. Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice said, following the win over Roscommon; “In the last couple of years he’s been carrying injuries and from about this time last year on he’s been injury-free and it’s allowed him to get a good bit of training under his belt, get really fit, and also then to come into a line of form that he’s maintained throughout the League.”

Last week David Clifford of St Brendan’s College Killarney won the award with Shane Nolan winning the hurling accolade. Let’s hope we get another winner after Sunday week’s encounter.

Players of the Week are decided based on votes cast by followers of @officialgaa on Twitter, on the Official GAA Facebook Page and on the Official GAA Instagram page
