A BLACK-TIE ball held back in April in memory of a popular Spa man raised an incredible €42,161  for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).

Tommy Brosnan, from The Spa, Tralee, passed away at the beginning of last summer after a five month battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Last April, his family held ‘The Primrose Black Tie Gala Ball’ in the Ballygarry House Hotel to raise much needed funds for the IMNDA and also to raise awareness of the disease and to provide a support network for those who are currently diagnosed and their families.

“We’re delighted with the amount we’ve raised, we’ve even had contributions since the night of the ball in April,” said  Tommy’s daughter, Kate Brosnan, at the handover of the cheque at Ballygarry House Hotel on Tuesday.

Through the proceeds of a CD called “The Spa in County Kerry”, performed by Dave Buckley and co-written by Tommy Brosnan, the impressive sum raised continues to grow.

“We were always confident that the fundraising would be successful, but we never imagined it would generate as much as it did. The generosity of the businesses and local community has been phenomenal and we’re appreciative of all the support we have received,” said Kate Brosnan.

“This was as much about fundraising as it was about raising awareness as well of the disease, so we hope it achieved both of those goals,” she said.
