Famed Film Director To Open Tralee Artist’s Exhibition

A RENOWNED film director will be in Kerry next month to open an exhibition of work by Tralee artist Mike O’Donnell.

The Tralee man’s framed drawings will form ‘Released’ which will grace St. John’s Theatre and Arts Centre in Listowel for the entire month of February.

Mike has confirmed that Jim Sheridan, the famed director of My Left Foot, The Field,  In the Name of the Father and others, will be in Listowel on Saturday, February 3 to launch the exhibition.

Meanwhile, Mike will host a preview of the exhibition in The Mall Tavern in Tralee this Friday evening, January 26, between 8pm and 9pm.

The court artist has sketched at many infamous trials in Dublin over the years. Mike has previously held a court art exhibition, ‘Captured’, at King’s Inns, Dublin in 2011. He promises that this exhibition will be truly captivating, moving both minds and spirits.

A study of former Kerry TD Martin Ferris which will be part of Mike O’Donnell’s upcoming exhibition in Listowel.

One of the highlights of the exhibition will be a series of intimate studies of Gerard ‘The Monk’ Hutch, whose trial was held in April 2023. There will also be drawings from the Ashling Murphy murder trial and studies of former Kerry TD Martin Ferris on display, among others.

‘Released’ will be open for viewing at St. John’s from February 1 to February 29, Monday to Friday, between 10am and 5pm. The official opening is on Saturday, February 3.
