TRALEE Tennis Club hosted its first ever Open Tournament last week.
This was an International World Tennis Federation (ITF) recognised event in the form of a Doubles Open Tournament and featured on the Tennis Ireland calendar.
It was a first for tennis in County Kerry and saw over 70 matches played over six days and 120 individual tennis players. There were 14 categories and a very high standard across all the grades (2-6). Each day saw fantastic tennis and spectators staying long into the night to enjoy the craic and atmosphere on offer.

“Last week was an incredible week in Tralee Tennis Club. We saw competitive tennis matches and sportsmanship at its best. It was a hugely successful tournament. More than that, we all had a lot of fun along the way,” said Nuala Finnegan, Chairperson, Tralee Tennis Club.
The tournament was officially launched by Karen Higgins, President of Munster Tennis.
“On behalf of Munster Tennis, I would like to offer everyone at Tralee Tennis Club big congratulations on reaching this milestone,” said Ms Higgins. “Thank you to everyone who entered the tournament and congratulations to all winners,” she added.
“A highlight of the tournament was giving a warm welcome to players from all over Munster and further afield; something I think we did a very good job of. All of us in Tralee Tennis Club are very proud of the tournament we ran. We ran it with the hard work and dedication of volunteers and the generous support we got from our sponsors. Thank you to everyone involved,” said Nuala Finnegan.
