THE Festival of Light Independent Arts Festival will take place again in Listowel from Thursday, October 31 to Saturday, November 2.

The organisers say that in an increasingly isolated rural society,  public art and public engagement is a vehicle for bringing people together, the participatory process is very beneficial for self confidence, for self-esteem and for general wellbeing.

Festival of Light encapsulates this concept with an interactive programme facilitating new encounters with art.

Artists using new forms of technology will create site conditional work for the Festival of Light, encouraging maximum engagement from spectators – including Virtual Reality, Projection Mapping and Pop Up installations.

Free tickets for the Forest of Light will be given to local mental health services and family resource centres. All events are free of charge except for the Forest Of Light (Adults €7/Children €5/Family of 4 €20) and Paul Duane Film Retrospective.

The Forest of Light will be created by artist Paul Gerard O’Connor and will see Listowel’s town park/the Garden of Europe transformed into an immersive sound and lightscape from 7pm – 10pm nightly.

People are encouraged to make their own paper lanterns at workshops held in various locations ahead of the festival. Everyone is then invited to participate in the lantern parade through Listowel town.

There’s a Virtual Reality experience, poetry, fire performers, art installations and much more.  Check out the facebook page and website for full programme of events.
