Cllr Deirdre Ferris.

A SINN Féin councillor has called on Uisce Éireann to confirm the expected completion date for the connection of Ardfert to the Regional Supply Scheme.

Cllr Ferris said that since Saturday, March 23, there have been three breaks in the water mains, leaving residents and businesses without water. She said this has been an ongoing issue for many years, and it is getting progressively worse.

“Uisce Éireann gave a commitment in October 2021 to start the works before the end of that year, and once again in July of 2022, to have Ardfert connected to the regional supply scheme by the end of that year,” said Cllr Ferris. “We are now in 2024, and while the work has finally started, no expected completion date has been given.”

“Buisnesses have had to close, residents have had to endure the continuous loss of water supply, and the roads are repeatedly being dug up to make the necessary repairs,” added Cllr Ferris.

“Enough is enough. Promises were made, commitments and timelines given and yet, we are still talking about this and the people of Ardfert are still enduring poor water and roads infrastructure as a result. I am calling on Uisce Éireann to give us some certainty as to when this vital work will be completed.”
