Full STEAM Ahead As Coding Students To Take Part In Vex Robotics Challenge

MERCY Mounthawk pupils are embracing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths in their latest project.

Taking part in the Irish Vex Robotics competition in March, they have to build, code and drive a robot to carry out challenges in the Institute of Technology Tralee with other local schools. This is a new venture for the school but one that they are excited to begin.

“The kids were excited about the competition, they had the robot built in 2 classes and a lunch time and now are planning modifications to help them in the challenge,” said William Nolan, Computer Science Teacher.

This is a Science Foundation Ireland funded initiative, coordinated locally by Institute of Technology Tralee.

Various teaching methods and clubs in the school both established and new are using STEAM teaching methodologies to teach students, problem solving and real world thinking to apply to their future workplace.
