GARDAI in Kerry are asking motorists to be especially mindful when driving in the vicinity of schools, after an operation over the past couple of days in Kerry saw 13 fixed charged penalty notices issued for speeding offences outside a school in Killarney.

The Kerry Roads Policing Unit (RPU) carried out speed checks on the mornings of the 5th and 6th of March in response to complaints received at Killarney Garda Station.

These speeding offences occurred on a road which has a 50kph limit in place and is very busy when children are being dropped off for school.

One driver was detected driving at 105kph, while the other detections made ranged from speeds of 75kph to 92kph.

Speaking at Killarney Garda Station, Inspector Tony Sugrue of the Kerry RPU said “Anyone who speeds on the roads is putting lives at risk, but to travel at such speeds as we have highlighted here, outside a school, is extremely dangerous.

“I would ask that all road users consider the dangers of speeding. Speeding puts you, me and all of our families at risk.” A fine of €80 and three penalty points will now be issued for these offences.
