Gardai identified particular areas which have become popular gathering points including Strand Road, Tralee Town Park, Casements Avenue, the riverwalk and the greenway.

Speaking on Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ programme on Monday afternoon, Garda Mary Gardiner said this behaviour is totally unacceptable.

She said there have been between 20 to 30 youths gathering in these areas causing annoyance to residents.

Garda Gardiner said where youths are found in such circumstances, Fixed Charge Notices (fines) will be issued.

They will be referred to the garda youth diversion office who will in turn decide on proceedings for the youth in question.  She said parents have a large part to play in this regard and asked them to know where  their children are.
