Gardaí Warn Public And Businesses Of Phone And Change Scams

GARDAI in Tralee are warning businesses and the public about separate phone and change scams.

Gardai say businesses have been hit by a scam where a person enters the premises and asks to change large notes into smaller notes.

He then changes his mind, asking for his large notes back and ends up confusing the cashier with the scammer ending up with extra money. Gardaí are asking businesses to be vigilant.

Also, Gardaí in Tralee have received reports people are getting phone calls from a Dublin number where a man purports to be from a bank saying there have been unauthorised transactions from their account.

He then asks for account details and PIN numbers. Gardaí say your bank will never ask for personal details and to hang up if you get such a call. Gardaí say a number of people have lost money thinking the caller was genuine.
