DOWN Syndrome Kerry (DSK) has announced the launch of its ‘Lots Of Socks’ campaign in celebration of World Down Syndrome Day, taking place on Thursday, March 21st.

This campaign aims to raise awareness, promote inclusivity, and celebrate the unique talents and abilities of their members.

“Renowned comedian Bernard Casey has contributed to the campaign by creating a delightful and humorous video, featuring characters like ‘Nephew,’ to bring the #LotsOfSocks campaign to life. The video can be viewed on the Down Syndrome Kerry social media outlets,” said Joe Burkett, Employment Support Specialist, DSK.

“We have collaborated closely with Radio Kerry to enhance awareness and visibility for our branch, as well as to highlight the extensive services and support we offer our members,” said Siobhan Walsh, Operations Manager, DSK.

On World Down Syndrome Day itself, Public Relations Officer for Down Syndrome Kerry, Joanne Cunningham, will be at UHK with her son Joseph, alongside some of the DSK members. Killarney, Rathmore, Tralee and Listowel credit unions will be actively participating with their lots of socks creations.

The societies of MTU will be sporting their most funky socks while hosting the DSK Job Ready students for an afternoon of enjoyable activities.

The staff of Fexco, Cahersiveen and the Brehon hotel, Killarney are also taking part in the festivities and will be donning their lots of socks for the day.

DSK extends an open invitation to all schools, organisations, and businesses interested in joining the celebrations.

Simply showcase your most creative and funky socks to show support and solidarity. Share pictures of your most creative and funky sock design and tag @downsyndromekerry on social media to be in with a chance of winning a perpetual cup.

Additionally, donations can be made on the day to support their ongoing initiatives.

“The services and supports that we provide and subsidize for our members is vital,” said John O Connor, Chairperson, DSK.  “We offer speech and language therapies, and early intervention. Our employment programme is going from strength to strength with more than 17 members now in meaningful and paid employment. It is a hugely exciting time for the branch. All donations are greatly appreciated and will go towards creating brighter futures for our members.”
