THE Glowhearts 4 Crumlin moms travelled to Dublin yesterday to present cheques to the children’s heart centre in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital in Crumlin and the Ronald McDonald House.

The Glowhearts4Crumlin campaign – started by Kerry mothers who have children born with a heart defect – generated a fantastic €18,000 which was divided evenly between these two charities.

The funds were raised during a ‘Wear Red Day’ in March and a disco event in McSorley’s, Killarney in April.

The €9,000 presented to the children’s heart centre in Crumlin is going to enable the centre to purchase four specially designed physio chairs for children who have undergone open heart surgery to help them get back on their feet faster and in more comfort.

“The staff and physios in the centre were so excited yesterday when they discovered they would now be finally able to purchase these chairs as they are desperately needed for the centre and will be of huge benefit to the children in aiding their recovery,” said Gillian O’Donoghue of Glowhearts4Crumlin.

The Glowhearts4Crumlin mums present a cheque for €9,000 to Ronald McDonald House.

“We presented €9,000 to Marian Carroll the CEO of the Ronald mc Donald charity which will go towards be funding of a purpose built 53 bedroom new Ronald McDonald house on the site of the new children’s hospital in Crumlin. This project is expected to cost in the region of €10.5 million so more fundraising is needed for this home from home haven for parents of seriously ill children in Crumlin which helps hugely in dealing with the traumatic experience of having a seriously ill child.”

“We want to say a heartfelt thank you to the people of Kerry for their amazing support and donations to our campaign during the last few months. Without home help and support of the people of Kerry we would not have been able to do this campaign and we hope to continue to receive this support again during the next year of our awareness and fundraising campaign,” said Gillian.
