Hospital Says Non-Urgent Patients Face Significant Delays Due To Increased Activity

UNIVERSITY Hospital Kerry is reporting a significant increase in levels of activity today and is advising that non-urgent patients may now experience significant delays.

In a statement issued to the media, hospital management are requesting that, where appropriate, the public contact their GP in the first instance and explore all other options available to them prior to attending the Emergency Department if their needs are not urgent.

“The hospital would also like to take this opportunity to assure the public and service users that every effort is being made to address this situation. Patient care is paramount in UHK and the situation is being managed as a priority and reviewed on an ongoing basis,” reads the statement.

“South/South West Hospital Group and University Hospital Kerry wish to acknowledge the ongoing hard work and dedication of all staff during this particularly busy time.”

Trolley Watch figures from the INMO for today reveals there are 13 patients waiting on trolleys at the hospital.
