ALL this week a number of talks will be taking place in Mercy Mounthawk secondary school as part of their health promotion week.

With social media and technology become an ever increasing part of our lives, the school have decided to focus in on internet security.

First and second year had a talk about internet use, focussing on Facebook and Snapchat. The talk was given by Kathleen Higgins of the KDYS and Garda Patricia Fitzpatrick. In the evening, parents were invited in to find out the risks involved with these websites.

Switching from the online theme, there will be a talk called ‘Beat the Blues’ by Dolores Gallagher which will look at the pressures facing, 6th year students as they make the transition from secondary school to college life.

Capping off the week will be the schools first ever 5k colour run on Friday. Taking a route that brings them around town, students will set off all in white and get doused in multi-coloured powdered paint with every kilometre they complete.
