We played Austin Stacks in the Town League Final at home in Ballyseedy today. It was a bitterly cold day and a light snow fell continuously during the match. There was a close and exciting encounter in the first half and a Shane O’Connor goal kept Mitchels in the game and went in at half time a point down.

Mitchels started well in the 2nd half and were awarded a penalty which was saved but was deflected out for a 45 which was converted to a well taken score under the conditions.

It was a nip and tuck with both sides giving their all and the decisive score came for Mitchels when James Duggan found the net in the 3rd quarter. Stacks gave their all in the final 15 minutes but the Mitchels defence were resolute and held out to achieve a great victory in this keenly contested final. Final score John Mitchels 2-05 Austin Stacks 0-08.

Laurence Bastible was presented with the Town League Cup to the cheers of their many supporters and took the opportunity of thanking Brendan Dillane of Weathermaster for their sponsorship for their team jerseys.

All children are invited to attend our Junevile training sessions. Even if they have never kicked a ball before the Club aims to give these kids fun, exercise, the skills to develop in football and also this training can be a fantastic confidence builder for kids from all backgrounds. They get to make friends outside of normal school circles and learn to become part of a team all under the supervision and encouragement of our Coaches and Mentoring staff. We at John Mitchels are planning a busy season for our Juveniles and we would ask parents if they have any feedback or suggestions. We are looking for parents to volunteer to give a handout on a Sunday morning and they can do so by contacting any of our Coaches or Mentors. All help would be greatly appreciated.
