UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

John Mitchel’s under 7s trained on Sunday in glorious sunshine.  69 boys and girls showed off their full repertoire of skills.  Great improvement has been shown week on week.  Well done to all the parents for making the effort to get them up to training.

Training continues on Sunday mornings at 11 am in our Ballyseedy complex.  New members always welcome

U8/U10 GIRLS

Another fine morning in Ballyseedy saw plenty of activity at the John Mitchels Complex on Sunday, and there were plenty of eager u-8 and u-10 girls anxious to get out and show off the skills that they had been practising during the week.

After Sadhbh took the girls for a warm-up, the emphasis for the rest of the training session was on close contact skills, ensuring that hand passes and kicks were crisp, on target and delivered quickly.

The warm weather saw a few drinks breaks thrown in, before the tackle bags were brought out. The girls showed no fear of running into the challenge, driving into the tackle bags and on plenty of occasions driving Tanya and Padraig back on their feet.

New recruit Casey, Jenny, Roisin, Charlie, Roisin, Clodagh, Ava Amberleigh and Ally all showed well, setting their bodies properly to take the tackle, before distributing the ball off to a colleague.

The session ended with a small-sided match, replicating a game situation with little room for manoeuvre. Millie, Sophie, Nicole, all stood out, as did Emma and Siún, with some clever passes. Saoirse was in terrific form, grabbing three goals, while, defensively, Aine, Amelia, and Ellie Mae were rock solid, while Tegan made some terrific saves near the end, including one with her head.

Players are asked to continue practising during the week, with emphasis on running handpassing and running kicks, as well as soloing. Next training session is on Sunday, with players asked to be at the pitch for 10.15am.

Training continues next Sunday at 10.30am in the Mitchel’s complex in Ballyseedy and as ever, we are delighted to welcome new faces.

Many thanks to Na Gaeil for the games & no doubt this bunch of players will meet again a lot more in the future.

UNDER 13 BOYS

Our two u13s game made the trip to Killarney to face Legion in Round 2 of Division 1 of the County League on Sunday evening

First in action were the Gold team, who were again slow out of the blocks in the first half. Legion were playing some very slick football and had a big lead at half time. Unperturbed, our lads came out with the instruction at half time to win the 2nd half and that they did, scoring 3-6 in total in another highly spirited display. Again, with a little more luck we could have had a few more scores on the board. If these lads can put 2 good halves of football together a win will not be long in coming for a very young team. The team is predominantly made up of U11s and the experience the lads are getting is bringing them on every week.

FINAL SCORE

Legion 5-18 John Mitchel’s Gold 3-7

11

In the second game, our Greens were in action against a Legion side who were very much an unknown quantity, one of the few teams this side hasn’t faced in the past years. Points were exchanged early on before we struck for 3 fast goals that left us ahead by 9 points at the first water break. The game changed not long after with what could only be described as an extremely harsh dismissal leaving us to play out the remainder of the game with 14 players. Our lads showed great character to hold Legion at bay, defending manfully and keeping the scoreboard ticking over at the other end.

FINAL SCORE

Legion 2-7 John Mitchel’s Green 5-9

Next week we face Laune Rangers at home, throw-in for both games to be confirmed. Training continues Tuesday and Thursday at 5.45pm

Don’t forget to fill out the return to play form before each session.

UNDER 15 BOYS

On Wednesday last we played our second game of the division we were at home to dingle yet again we gave a brilliant performance all over the pitch limiting dingle to 6pts our forward line was on fire with some superb scores from play the final score was Mitchel’s 7-11 to 6pts for dingle training continues Monday and Friday 6-45pm with our next game on Wednesday away to fossa detail at training Monday na misteallaig Abù

UNDER 17 BOYS

Our U17 Boys had their second game of the County League campaign against StMarys/Renard at Cahersiveen Monday night which ended in defeat against a very strong and skilful team. Moment of excellence were shown by our boys but ultimately mistakes and i clinical finishing cost us on a night that we needed to take all score chances we got. Our last group game is against local rivals Na Gaeil Monday night at Home 7:30pm, Training continues Thursday and Saturday.

SENIOR MEN

Senior co lge div1A

Last Saturday evening we played our second rd co lge game at home to Kilcummin.

Played on a windy and cold evening the game soon warmed up fairly fast with Kilcummin opening the scoring, soon after Mitchel’s opened their account with a fine point from James Duggan.

Further points from Alan O Donoghue and James Duggan left us 4 points up at the short whistle 8 points to 4  points.

Kilcummin now playing with the wind came out in the second half blazing 3 rapid points to narrow to the minimum before Conor Hurley pulled off a fine save preventing a certain goal.

This rallied Mitchel’s and for the next quarter further points from James and Alan pushed us ahead 12 points to 10, Kilcummin now on all-out attack tapped on a further point leaving the minimum between the sides Mitchel’s defence held strong and at the final whistle secured the 2 points with a 1 point victory Mitchel’s 12 points Kilcummin 11 points.

This was a very solid display by Mitchel’s in what now appears a very tight division. Well done to all next game is at home to Spa weekend of 3/4 July.

Our Senior Men B Division 6 team got their first county league points on Sunday after a comprehensive win over Genevguilla on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-6. A very young team with a few experienced heads thrown in showed moments of brilliance to put some great team scores together. With some players just back from injury or time away it was a huge improvement on our first game with still much more to come from the lads.

Training for senior men are as follows Tuesdays- 7.30-9.00 and Fridays 7.30-9.00

All new players welcome
