MINORS – CO LEAGUE:

We got our Co League campaign off to a good start on Saturday last March 5th with a win at home to Castleisland Desmonds on a score of 2-8 to 0-7. We played with a very strong wind in the opening half but it took us a while to settle and after 20 minutes we were only leading by 2 points to 1.

However it was in the final 10 minutes of this half that we played our best football and a goal from Mikey Walsh was quickly followed by another from Pat Kearney. A fine individual point from Jack Myers saw us leading by 2-3 to 0-2 at half time.

We managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over in the 2nd half with good points from Conor Hurley, Mikey Walsh, Darcy O’Sullivan and Michael Kelliher. Desmonds dominated the final 10 minutes of the game and had several goal chances including a penalty but our goalkeeper Dylan O Shea produced a string of fantastic saves in a Man of the Match display.

Team:

Dylan O’Shea, Eoin Barden, Darren Daly, Aaron Pitman, Mark Ryle, Pat Kearney, Ryan Ward, Conor Hurley , Jack Myers, Ger Tobin, Mikey Walsh, Darcy O’ Sullivan, Joe Griffin , Michael Kelliher, Owen Breen, Darrion Hurley

John Mitchels 1-08 Tarbert/Moyvane 4-10

We suffered our first defeat of the season against a more physically stronger Tarbert/Moyvane selection last Saturday away in Moyvane. We started brightly but failed to convert any potential scores. Moyvane/Tarbert dominated for the next 10 minutes and converted 1-03 without reply.

We fought hard and came back into the game with 4 unanswered scores from Michael Kelleher and Eoin Breen. Tarbert/Moyvane performed better for the remainder of the half leaving the half time score Moyvane/Tarbert 2-07 John Mitchels 0-05.

There was definitely more purpose to the Mitchels performance at the start of the second half courageously led by Pat Kearney, Darran Daly and Ryan Ward. The whole Mitchels team in general played with great heart and never gave up which is a good sign for future games. Mikey Kelleher, Gary Howard and Mikey Walsh added points with Eoin Breen scoring the goal. Moyvane/Tarbert scored two late goals to flatter the scoreline somewhat.

It was a tough physical game for the Mitchels team but lessons were learned and hopefully we will learn and grow as a team. Special thanks to all our supporters who travelled to the game.
