Claire Connolly (John Mitchels club secretary), Denis Fitzgerald (Juvenile chairman), David Leahy (John Mitchels Feile coordinator), Denis Mannix (Chairman, John Mitchels), Aogán Ó’Fearghaíl (President of the GAA) and Tom Keane (Kerry Feile Chairman) during the Féile na nÓg.

FEILE 2016
The club had a very busy few days with the National Feile competition. The club had the honour of hosting the boys team from Gloucestershire and the ladies team from St Brides (Louth).

The visiting teams were absolutely fantastic over the course of the weekend and all of the players and their mentors had a great time, enjoying the hospitality that John Mitchels is renowned for.

A big thanks to all the host families who looked after the boys and girls so well, from when they arrived on Thursday night until they left on Sunday. A big thanks also to our sponsors for the weekend, Brendan Dillane (Weathermaster) and Dave Leahy (Construction) and to Tim & Ina Galvin of Gally’s Bar & Restaurant who catered (in the club) for all four teams after the parade on Saturday night.

The complex also had a very busy Feile weekend with 22 games played in our club grounds, 10 games on Friday evening, 6 games on Saturday and 6 games on Sunday.

The games on Sunday included the boys Division 3 Cup Semi Finals & Final, the boys Division 3 Shield Final and the ladies Division 5 Shields and Cup Finals. The hosting of these games was a huge undertaking, 32 teams from Ireland, Scotland, and the UK passed through the club throughout the course of the weekend and Complex Manager Humphrey and his team have to be applauded for having the pitches and the club grounds in tip top condition, all visiting clubs were in awe of our facilities.

On Sunday GAA President Aogán ÓFearghaíl paid a visit to the club and he too was very impressed with the club facilities. Well done to the club’s Feile Co-ordinator David Leahy who ensured things ran smoothly, that all football games were played on time and all results were submitted after each game.

A huge thanks also to the 68 volunteers who gave up their time over the weekend and did whatever was asked of them. All of your efforts were really appreciated.

U14 GIRLS:
John Mitchels competed and hosted feile for the first time in our history. We hosted St Brides of Louth and what a wonderful group of players, mentors
and Families they were a joy to host and we wish them well in the future.

We played our first game in Feile in Ballyseedy on Friday against Currow LFC. The wind distated this was going to a game of 2 halves and it was with Mitchels holding on against the wind with a goal from Rachel kept us in touch. The second half saw Kerry and Simi get on top at midfield.

Further goals from Rachel, Ruth and Kerry saw us win 6-7 to 2-4. Our defence held out led by Erica and Julie. Our second game on Friday was against a strong Glencar Manorhamilton  Leitrim Feile Champions.

Mitchels played with the wind in the first half and scores hard to come by with everyone putting in a huge effort but we were down 4 points at half time. The second half started well but a turnover in midfield led to a Glencar goal and  despite a huge effort from our girls we went down 2-7 to 1-3.

We played St Brides of Louth on Saturday morning in Ballyseedy on Saturday morning and this turned out to be a cracker with Mitchels coming out on top by  3-2 to 3-0 with goals from Rachel, Molly and a last gasp winner from Ruth and points from Rachel.

We now qualified for the quarter final where we played Con Magees from Antrim in Scartaglen. On Saturday afternoon, again the conditions were very windy and a strong Con Magees went ahead early and despite our best efforts their strength in depth we went down after a titanic effort by 4-5 to 1-5. Our girls gave everything and can be very proud as a host team to do so well.

We marched in the Feile parade on Saturday evening in Tralee followed by a  wonderful BBQ back at Ballyseedy with excellent food from Gallys Restaurant.
It was a fantastic experience for our players to play in Feile which was a lifetime opportunity.

We wish to sincerely thank all the players, parents and friends especially the girls  who hosted our visiting team St Brides. Great Support from all.
