kerry county council logoKERRY County Council has thanked the public for their co-operation over the past day during the Red weather warning which was issued yesterday afternoon by Met Eireann.

The status was downgraded to ‘Orange’ earlier this morning.

“Kerry County Council, An Garda Siochana and the HSE would like to thank the public for their assistance in listening to the advice issued and acting upon it,” reads the statement.

It continues: “The advice given by the three agencies was in the interests of public safety, based on the predicted weather information that was available to us and based on the code RED weather alert issued by Met Eireann, the highest alert they can issue. Given the devastation experienced in Kerry the last time a code RED was issued, which was last February during Storm Darwin, all agencies felt that issuing such advice was necessary in the interests of public safety.”

“While there was some storm related damage in the county, we were extremely fortunate that the worst of the storm passed north of Kerry.”

“Again, the three agencies would like to thank the public for acting to ensure everyone’s safety and also to emergency staff for their efforts last night and this morning,” concluded the statement.
