KERRY COLLEGE has announced an innovative new programme called “Ecology and Practical Fieldwork Skills” which will run in Killarney starting on Monday 16th November.

This full-time QQI Level 5 Major Award will be run by Killarney National Park Education Centre in conjunction with Cappanalea (The National Centre for Outdoor Education and Training), with activities and fieldwork being carried out in the Knockreer Demesne and the many and varied habitats of the National Park.

There are only 10 places available on the course and interviews will take place on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th November for a scheduled 16th November start.

Course leader Chris Barron explains more about the course: “This Ecology & Practical Fieldwork Skills course is a highly practical programme and is a great starting point for anyone looking to pursue a career in Ecology, Botany, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Conservation, or other related sectors. Of course, our graduates may also choose to progress to third-level.”

Kerry College Admissions Officer John Herlihy is looking forward to the first intake: “This is a fantastic new course for the Killarney area, especially at a time when so many people are re-connecting with the outdoors environment … and where better to be based for a course like this than in the 11,000 hectares of the magnificent Killarney National Park.”

Applicants need to be over 16 years of age, with a minimum of a QQI Level 4 Major Award, Leaving Certificate or equivalent, have good numerical and communication skills and a strong interest in the environment.
