Kerry County Museum will host a national Roger Casement exhibition.

THE County Museum in Tralee will mark the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising by hosting a national Roger Casement exhibition  in 2016.

The exhibition will feature information on his life, career and the part that he played in the Rising and will cost an estimated €90,000, with half of this being funded by Kerry County Council (KCC).

The event will run for several months and will feature numerous items that belonged to him that have been kindly donated to the museum, such as artifacts and photographs.

The public will be treated to a unique look into the road taken by Casement from a servant to the Crown to the Irish Nationalist executed in Pentonville Prison.

This is just part of a series of events being planned for the centenary.

The Council has also announced that it will be hosting a State Ceremony in Banna. There will be an upgrade of the access road to the ‘Casement Monument’ with the cost of this being estimated at €25,000 with work set to commence in 2015, while other events will be taking place at Ballykissane  Pier and Valentia Island.

The total spend by Kerry County Council on events to mark the centenary of the Rising is €150,000.
