KERRY GAA received a cheque for around €330,000 at a function in London at the weekend, according to the London-based newspaper, Irish World.

The paper reports that a £243,000 cheque was given to Kerry GAA at the Kerry Association of London annual dinner dance in Cricklewood. With the exchange rate, that works out as somewhere in the region of €330,000.

The money is going towards the Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence which incorporates two locations – a co-hosted GAA facility at the Institute of Technology, Tralee, and six playing fields with a training facility at Currans near Kerry Airport.

Back in June, a US fundraising venture grossed $1,150,000, bringing the Kerry County Board close to the €6m needed to get the Centre of Excellence and training facility at Currans off the ground.

Since then work has begun on the Currans facility. Earlier in the month the Institute of Technology plans received a boost when it was announced they would receive government funding of almost €7.5 million.
