THERE was a slight rise in the number of incidents of people caught for possession of drugs for sale of supply, with a drop in the number of possession for personal use cases, in the first quarter of 2018 in Kerry.

The figures were revealed at the latest Joint Policing Committee meeting at Kerry County Council last Friday by Kerry Garda Division Chief Supt Tom Myers.

There were 22 possession of drugs for sale of supply offences, up 10% on Q1 2017, while possession for personal use cases fell from 104 to 90 (-13%).

He said their Drug Squad is extremely active and had recruited another member recently and said they are making inroads into the sale and supply of drugs in the county, but particularly in Tralee and Killarney.

He said there are drugs available in every town and village in Kerry and they are especially targeting the dealers of drugs.

He said there has been less than 1o heroin seizures in the county in the first three months of the year and a number of people will be coming before the courts.

There were 76 cannabis herb seizures, 18 cocaine seizures, 14 benzodiazepines seizures and 11 cannabis resin seizures in Q1 2018.
