A VERY popular Lego building club is coming to Tralee for kids between four and 12 years-of-age.

The first ‘Brickx Club’ in town is taking place next Tuesday, November 17, in Cumann Iosaef.

There will also be a Lego workshop day in the Fels Point Hotel on Sunday, December 13.

Lego is seen as an enthralling pastime for children the world over and can also help their development as they get older.

Each week at ‘The Brickx Club’, there will be a new theme to explore, hand-eye co-ordination will be practised and creations will be displayed for the parents to view at the end of the sessions.

‘The Brickx Club’ is the brainchild of Cork native Kathy Lambkin. Through her experience as a Montessori teacher she saw the powerful influence that Lego had on both an educational and social level for kids.

The initiative has proved to be very popular elsewhere in Ireland. The clubs are kept to small groups so booking is vital.

Heading up the club in Tralee will be Listowel woman, Julia Galvin, who is an educationalist and graduated from the University of Limerick in 1994 with a double major in Science & Education.

“The Brickx Club will be a great place to meet new friends and learn new skills in a theme based environment,”  said Julia Galvin.

“We have come to a point where children’s ability to socialise, communicate and play is being seriously marred and monopolised by electonic gadgets, I want to change that,” said Julia Galvin.
