A meeting about the socio-economic future of Milltown will be held on Thursday.

THE findings of a study on the future community and development needs 0f Milltown will be presented in the Nagle-Rice Community Centre in Milltown on Thursday, March 2 at 7.30pm.

Kerry native and lecturer on rural development, Dr. Brendan O’Keeffe of UL and Mary Immaculate College, Limerick was commissioned by Kerry County Council to undertake a socio-economic study of Milltown to help identify future community and development needs in the locality.

Local community groups and members of the public are invited to attend the meeting and are being encouraged to do so by the Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council and local councillor, Michael O’Shea.

Dr. O’Keeffe’s report is considered the first step in developing a socio-economic plan for Milltown and a structure to oversee its implementation.

The starting point is to understand Milltown today and issues like population breakdown, age of population, changes that have occurred, number of people at work, number of young people living in the area and other demographic data.

Dr. O’Keeffe will present recommendations or ‘signposts’ for future development. Following the presentation there will be a facilitated discussion on the plan and the next steps.
