MERCY Mounthawk Parents’ Council hosted a ‘Pakistani Cuisine and Eid Festival’ night in the school on Thursday.

The Parents Council launched an Intercultural Programme last November that is taking place throughout the academic year 2019/2020.

Parents from different cultures within the school community are hosting a series of cookery demonstrations and tastings for the other parents/guardians.

Taking place in the Home Economics room, traditional dishes are cooked in front of the audience who can then sample the foods.

“The last culinary event was a great success. These events are designed to provide a welcoming environment in our school for parents and guardians from all cultures. They are an opportunity for us to mingle and get to know each other through a shared interest in food” said Rachel Fitzgerald, Chairperson of Mercy Mounthawk Parents’ Council.

There was a celebration of traditional Pakistani recipes and dishes as well as sharing the customs and traditions of Pakistan during Eid.

Working closely with the staff and the parents in the school, the Parents’ Council will continue with these culinary events. Demonstrations of the food from Nigeria and Ireland will happen later in this school year.

This project is funded by the Department of Justice and Equality Communities Integration Fund.
