MERCY Mounthawk has received six nominations in the Stagewise inaugural School Musical Awards competition.

Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School staged their musical ‘Hairspray’ in January, in Siamsa Tíre. The show was a resounding success with a full house for all five performances.

The adjucator’s report was hugely positive, highlighting Tony Behan’s “superb direction”, and it stated that the talent of the 130 young students on display was “awe-inspiring”.

The report highlighted the diversity on show and complimented the high standard of performance as well as the team effort that went into making it a success.

“It wasn’t just the performers, it was everything, the set pieces, costumes, choreography, musical direction, lighting sound, chorus were all super and all contributed to a wonderful night’s entertainment, the standing ovation from the packed house was richly deserved,” said the report.

The six categories they were nominated in are;

• Best Visual (Costumes, Make-up, Props)
• Best Choral Singing
• Rising Star – Sorcha Ringland
• Best Female Singer – Promise Ekwuhama
• Best Director – Tony Behan
• Best Overall Show

The results will be announced on Friday, May 22 via a virtual ceremony.
