A GROUP of students at Mercy Mounthawk are trying to raise funds for a monument to show Tralee’s inclusivity when it comes to all cultures and religions.

The Youth Social Innovators group is called ‘Generation I’ and their aim is to make other cultures feel welcome in Ireladand.

This week they were celebrating Chinese New Year by selling fortune cookies to raise money for the monument. It is being made by stonemason Billy Leen and is to be erected in the Town Park when completed.

An inscription on the monument will read: “Tralee welcomes all cultures and creeds to embrace the green within”. The names of all students with origins in different countries in the school will also appear on the monument.
