A GROUP of Kerry women bikers have become calendar girls to raise money for a voluntary group working to prevent suicide.

The calendar, ‘Girls Rev Up For Charity’, features women from Tralee, Listowel, Killarney and Gneeveguilla and the launch night will be held in the Porterhouse Bar and Restaurant in Killareny on Friday, September 26 at 7.30pm.

Shot in scenic locations around Killarney and Tralee, the calendar will be sold in aid of the Kerry charity, Be Aware Prevent Suicide, which organises mental wellness exhibitions in Tralee and Killarney to foster mental health and help prevent suicide.

Biker, Deirdre Stack, originally from Asdee and now living in Tralee, is one of the promoters of the charity calendar. The other women bikers taking part are Eilish Coffey, Brid Coffey, Dervil Fleming all from Killarney, Kathryn Browne from Listowel and Deirdre Staak from Gneeveguilla.

“I met a friend at the Bike Fest in Killarney last June and told her about an idea I had about producing a calendar for charity with motorbikes and women as the theme, ” Deirdre said.

“I was really thrilled to see her enthuasism and the idea took off from there. We gathered six women in total who were fantastic in supporting the idea and we had great fun working on the calendar,” she said.

Deirdre said they got “great sponsorship” from businesses whose logos would appear on the calendar

“We decided on the charity, Be Aware Prevent Suicide, as we all know that suicide has become prevalent in the last number of years. By selling this calendar, we can raise some money which will help a very worthy casue to hopefully go on to help save a loved one,”  she said.

Be Aware Prevent Suicide Chairwoman, Deirdre Fee of Killarney, said they appreciate the support very much because the charity relies totally on fundraising.

Be Aware Prevent Suicide is a voluntary group, totally reliant on the donations of the public and does not have any paid employees so all monies donated or raised go directly to help those who need it.

At the moment, the ladies are looking for businesses to stock the calendars. We’ll let you know where to get the calendars as soon as they find stockists.
