TWO cancer charities were presented with thousands of euro each after a Movember event held in memory of Rahoonane man.

Tom Raymond passed away in June of this year. During his battle with cancer, he travelled for treatment on the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus and received care in the Palliative Care Unit.

His friends Billy Hennessy, Willie Dennehy and Martin Cane and sons Richard, Kevin and Thomas decided to do a Movember event in his memory with proceeds going to the two charities.

During the month of November, they raised €3,250 for Kerry Hospice and €2,500 for Kerry Cancer Support Group, culminating in a shave off in The Munster Bar.

“Tom was a good friend of ours and the support he received here was unbelievable,” said Willie Dennehy at the presentation of the cheques in the unit on Thursday.

“People don’t realise the treatment and the respect you receive here until such time as you have a loved one or a friend here and you see the way they are treated. It’s an amazing place,” said Willie who thanked everyone who donated.

He also thanked John Moriarty who shaved his head at the event in the Munster Bar earlier this month for the cause, Hairworks for performing the cutting and John O’Sullivan of the bar for supplying refreshments.

Breda Dyland of Kerry Cancer Support Services said; “These events mean a lot to us, especially with next year being the 10th anniversary of Kerry Cancer Support Services we’re planning to get a new bus and these funds will go towards that.”

Joe Hennebery of Kerry Hospice Foundation also expressed his thanks to the lads and delight at the fantastic amount they raised.
