RESIDENTS of one of Tralee’s oldest estates and one of the town’s top stomping grounds for churning out talent down the years are organising a momentous reunion.

‘The St Brendans Park Reunion’ will take place on Friday, February 13 at the Austin Stacks GAA Clubhouse. This is the night before Austin Stacks are scheduled to play their All-Ireland club semi-final in Portlaoise.

“St Brendan’s Park is one of the oldest estates in Tralee so this will be a great opportunity to meet up with former residents who people may not have seen in years,” said one of the reunion organisers, Johnny Bonner.

St Brendan’s Park was built in the mid 1950s and has given the town some of its most famous names through the years, among them eight-time All-Ireland winner Mikey Sheehy.

Other Kerry greats who lived there include, the ‘Bracker’ Regan and the Landers brothers, Purty and Roundy.

St Brendan’s Park has also contributed giants of Irish media with former RTE newsreader, Maurice O’Doherty and ex-editor of the Irish Independent, the late Aengus Fanning, both hailing from the estate.

“We’ve been talking about doing it for years and years, so we think it’s finally about time we did it,” said Johnny Bonner.

It is hoped that on the night, the Sam Maguire, Bishop Moynihan cup and the Munster Cup will be there also.

“The Christmas period is a good time to get the word out about the reunion because a lot of people will be back of the next couple of weeks,” said Johnny.

  1. Is Johnny Bonner from Donegal or does he have Donegal connections? (coz of his surname)
