A CANDLELIGHT vigil  to remember the homeless people who died in Dublin and Kildare in the past two days, was held in Tralee last night.

Around 20 people gathered in The Square to remember Jack Watson who died after being found unconscious outside a shop on Suffolk Street in Dublin’s city centre on Thursday morning and a 26-year-old homeless woman, who was found dead in the hotel room she was sharing with her two children in Leixlip, Co Kildare on Wednesday night.

Those present said that attitudes towards the homeless had to change in Ireland and they called on the Government to do more about the crisis in the country.

Organiser Catherine Dolan said she heard about the deaths on Thursday and said she had to do something, so she quickly organised the vigil.

“I would have been happy with five people here tonight,” said Catherine. “I couldn’t sit at home and do nothing. The situation is getting worse and that is due mainly to the banks making people homeless,” added Catherine.
