THERE was a buzz of activity outside the gymnasium in Mercy Mounthawk, on Wednesday morning as expectant students waited to receive their Junior Certificate results.
Among the high achievers were five students who received 10 A’s and four who got nine A’s.
“We’re really happy as our students performed comfortably above the national average down through the subjects, from maths to Irish, to history and art,” said Mercy Mounthawk Deputy Principal, Pat Fleming.
In total, around 200 students completed the examination at the town’s largest secondary school and there were tears of happiness and screams of relief when pupils finally got to to see their hard work come to fruition.
“We’re very pleased for the teachers. They said they were a great group to work with and they really produced on the day when it came to doing the exams. The kids have done exceptionally well so we’re really pleased,” said Pat Fleming.
The school performed particularly high in art with 55% of students receiving an A. Mounthawk students also performed particularly well in history, with over 30%, scoring A’s, which is more than double the national average.
