A TRALEE athlete who has enjoyed a stellar career in running was honoured at the Run The Kingdom Awards in the Fels Point Hotel last night.
John Griffin received the Hall of Fame Award at the event which saw numerous awards handed out to participants.
The 1988 and 1989 Dublin City Marathon winner – among other honours too numerous to mention – was joined by his family for the ceremony and thanked Marcus Howlett and Run The Kingdom for the honour.
A number of awards were given on the night including the 2015 RigBag men’s and women’s Run The Kingdom Championship winners Michael O’Regan and Sharon Cahill, the Kerry’s Eye 2015 Running Achievement Awards to Shona Heaslip and Thomas Bubendorfer, the Running in Kerry awards to Chris Gayson and the Born to run trainers and the youngest Tralee marathon finisher to Stephanie Nix.

Also the top ten male and females in the RigBag 2015 Run The Kingdom Championship table were acknowledged.
It was also an occasion to announce that the Fels Point Hotel will be the official accommodation partners to Run the Kingdom for the 2016 Tralee Valentines Run, the 2016 Tralee International Marathon and the 2016 Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon.
Speaking about the partnership, Sorcha Finnegan, Sales Manager at Fels Point Hotel said: “Fels Point Hotel is delighted to be working with the Tralee International Marathon in 2016. It is a fantastic organisation that Marcus has brought to the town and the county. We are very much looking forward to being the official accommodation hotel for the races. The awards night last night here in the hotel showed there is a great community spirit within the runners, organisers and all involved.
