A MOTHER and daughter team cut a combined total of 27 inches off their hair for the Rapunzel Foundation’s Ponytail campaign.
On Tuesday morning, mother Rachel and daughter Kelly Hayes, under the watchful eye of grandmother, Bernie, cut their hair at the Style Council salon on Ashe Street.
Kelly, who is only five, has given up 13 inches of her own hair for girls less fortunate with alopecia.

“Both our hair had got very long, so rather than just cutting it we decided to something good with it,” said Rachel Hayes.

“Kelly didn’t really want to cut her hair at the start, but when we told her it would be going to kids she got all excited, so we just let it grow another bit until it was long enough to give to the charity,” said Rachel.
In a nice connection, it was at the Style Council’s former premises in The Square, that Rachel had her first haircut back in 1996. The ponytail cut from that visit is still preserved by Bernie who brought it along for the charity haircut.
