A YOUNG girl from Boherbee made a very kind-hearted gesture on Saturday morning when she shed her locks for a great cause.

Rachel O’Connor, a nine year old pupil in Moyderwell Primary, went to Vogue Hair and Beauty on North Circular Road to get her hair cut.

Rachel saw a video recently of someone getting their hair cut and donating the locks to the Rapunzel Foundation, a charitable organization that works to improve the lives of those living with hair loss (alopecia) through fund raising as well as through ‘hair raising’.

Hair is raised through the Rapunzel Foundation’s Ponytail campaign, where people commit to growing their hair 14 inches or longer with the view to their hair being sent to help make much needed wigs to improve the lives of those living with the hair loss.

Accompanied by parents Kevin and Jacinta, Rachel was a little nervous about getting the chop, but one quick snip later by hairdresser Samantha Cole and it was all done and dusted.

Rachel felt a bit “weird” at her new hairdo but was delighted to have done something for such a great organisation. Well done Rachel.
