THERE was a great crowd up at O’Dowd Park in Clahane on Friday evening as Tralee RFC hosted the final night of their Summer Tag Rugby Tournament.
The tournament has been running for the past six weeks and it was a great way to get active and play rugby in a social setting. While the tag event has been run for the past number of years, the IRFU have become involved.
“The IRFU run a Volkswagen-sponsored summer tag tournament and they’ve come on board with us this year,” said Rob Durran, one of the organisers.

“It’s a way of getting people involved in rugby and also just to get active. The teams are mixed with both men and women and it’s mostly non-members of the club who have been taking part over the past six weeks with over 120 people attending on each night of the games,” he said.
There was a great social side of things too with barbecues taking place after the games every game night over the past number of weeks.
Twelve teams took part and there was a Championship Division which was won by ‘Down2Tag’ while Listowel RFC were victorious in the Conference Division.
There was a barbecue, a few beers and live music after the action to celebrate another great tournament. Scroll down for photos…
