DICK and Eibhlín Henggeler proved the perfect hosts last night as The Rose Hotel laid on a Thanksgiving feast for guests.
The owners of the hotel, who reside in Baltimore, wanted to bring their Thanksgiving tradition to Tralee and people obviously liked the idea as it was a sold-out event with 180 guests attending the €25 a head evening.
Many of Eibhlín’s family from Killarney were there, along with some Americans, locals and many Irish people who had returned home after spending years in the States and missed the tradition where people travel hundreds of miles to spend time with their family.

Guests, including former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh, were welcomed with a traditional Thanksgiving hot punch in the foyer where the Henggelers greeted all and wished them a happy Thanksgiving. The guests then made their way to the Lee Suite where a feast, created by executive head chef, Odran Lucey and his team, was laid on.
Screens were erected showing the famous Macy’s Parade in New York and the traditional American Football game, while a message was also broadcast from reigning Rose of Tralee, Chicago’s Maggie McEldowney, who wished all a happy Thanksgiving.
The meal itself featured a starter of poached mulled wine pear, followed by roast stuffed free range bronzed turkey, along with Frank’s Thanksgiving sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, maple glazed carrots, Swiss cheese corn bake, cranberry relish, savoury herb and fruit stuffing, creamy mash potato and turkey gravy.
Traditional Thanksgiving desserts will include pumpkin pie, pecan pie with ice cream.
Feeling suitably thankful following the meal, many guests retired to the warm and intimate surroundings of Dott’s Bar to relax and spend quality time with friends and family. After such a success, we’re sure it will be become a Rose Hotel tradition. Scroll down for photos…
